US-based doctor cheated of properties and cash worth Rs 1.87 crore

Bhopal: In a shocking incident, an elderly NRI doctor residing in the United States has allegedly been cheated of properties and cash worth Rs 1.87 crore by his own nephew and the latter’s girlfriend in Bhopal.
The Kolar Road police have registered an FIR against the accused on charges of fraud and other related offences. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
According to the complainant, a 67-year-old doctor has been living in the United States for nearly three decades. The doctor alleged that he visited Bhopal in 2018 to care for his ailing sister and decided to purchase a house for his stay in the city.

Police said the doctor trusted his nephew, who introduced him to his girlfriend. The complainant alleged that the woman gradually gained his confidence and later became part of a well-planned conspiracy to cheat him financially.
Speaking to Free Press Journal, police said the suspects convinced the doctor to buy a bungalow in Singapore Villa Colony for Rs 88.45 lakh, but fraudulently got the property registered in the woman’s name while handing the doctor a fake copy showing him as the owner.
In another alleged fraud, a luxury SUV worth Rs 18 lakh, purchased by the doctor for his sister’s use, was also registered in the woman’s name despite the complainant funding the purchase.
The complaint further alleged that the nephew manipulated registry documents related to another property in Arera Colony to secure a 50 per cent ownership stake.
He also accused the duo of blackmail, extortion, and threatening to implicate him in a false rape case if he approached the police.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a doctor from Malad East was allegedly cheated of Rs 65 lakh in a fake luxury flat scheme, following which the Kurar police have arrested one of the accused from Indore after a two-year search.
