Uttarakhand: Govt Doctor, Nursing officer suspended for medical negligence
Dehradun: A doctor and the nursing officer of Government Women's Hospital, Haldwani has been suspended over medical negligence in dealing with a pregnant woman.
Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat has earlier ordered an enquiry after learning of the claims that a woman in labor gave birth at the entrance to the Government Women's Hospital in Haldwani.
The minister suspended Dr Disha Bisht and nursing officer Deepti Rani for medical negligence in taking care of a pregnant woman.
The pregnant woman before giving birth at the entrance of the third hospital i.e, Haldwani Woman's hospital on Saturday, apparently received referrals from two other government hospitals.

After hearing about the incident, Minister Rawat earlier instructed the secretary of his department to launch an investigation into the occurrence because of how severe it was. He concluded on a serious note by announcing that those found guilty will face harsh punishment. He said that failing to provide medical facilities by the hospital administration comes under gross negligence of duties and it would not be tolerated.
Rawat said in a statement issued on Sunday that he took the situation "extremely seriously" and had ordered the secretary of health to launch an investigation and produce a report within three days. A four-member committee submitted the report and the decision to suspend the responsible parties was announced on Monday.
He said that the sub-district hospital Khatima and Sushila Tiwari hospital Haldwani would also be investigated.
He told TOI "We took cognizance of the issue because our efforts are to improve maternal and infant health in our state. And if this kind of negligence is observed in future, then the doctors and others involved will face similar action on being found guilty."
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a staff nurse of a community health centre has been suspended in connection with the death of a newborn child. The step was taken after Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak ordered a probe into the matter.
