Veteran ophthalmologist Dr Nareswar Dutta passes away in Tinsukia
Renowned Ophthalmologist Dr Nareswar Dutta Dies at 90
Tinsukia: Dr Nareswar Dutta, a renowned ophthalmologist, philanthropist, and social worker from Tinsukia, passed away at his residence in Bordoloi Nagar on Saturday evening after a prolonged illness. He was 90.
Dr Dutta was a member of the first batch of Gauhati Medical College and went on to earn his Master's degree in Ophthalmology. His medical career began with service in the Northeast Frontier Railway, followed by a tenure at OIL Hospital in Duliajan.
In 1974, he established his own eye clinic on Rangagora Road in Tinsukia. He was highly committed to social service and revered by the doctor fraternity.

Apart from his distinguished medical career, Dr Dutta remained actively involved in numerous social, cultural, and educational organisations. He was closely associated with Golap Chandra Rabi Chandra Natya Mandir, the Blood Bank, several educational institutions, the All India Ophthalmological Society, the Ophthalmological Society of Assam (OSA), the Tinsukia Consumer Redressal Forum, Lok Adalat, and many other public welfare initiatives.
His death was deeply mourned by the citizens of Tinsukia, including MLA Pulak Gogain and Pulak Chetia, Chairman TMB, reports The Sentinel.
Dr Dutta is survived by his wife, former Joint Director of Health Services (DHS), Tinsukia; his son, a naturalist; and two daughters. As a mark of respect, his mortal remains were taken to GCRC Natya Mandir and the IMA House before his cremation in Tinsukia on Sunday.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a tragic loss to the medical fraternity, Dr. K. Pavithran, Professor and Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, passed away while undergoing treatment for an abdominal-related ailment. He was 63. Even during his illness, Dr. Pavithran continued to devote time to his patients.
