Woman poses as AIIMS Delhi Cardiologist, dupes IT professional with promise of marriage
Patna: In a fraud case reported in the city, a woman pretending to be a cardiologist from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has been arrested for allegedly trying to steal gold jewellery and other valuable items from a senior IT professional on the pretext of marriage.
According to the police, the woman also claimed that she had cleared UPSC’s civil services examination and proposed to the IT professional, Ravi Ranjan of Ganga Vihar, for marriage after befriending him on social media.
The accused befriended Ravi through a social media platform six months ago. Posing as a doctor, she gradually built a close relationship with him. During their conversations, she claimed to have cleared the prestigious UPSC civil services exam, even sharing a fake newspaper clipping to prove her claim.

"In June, Ravi went to Delhi to meet her, where Janvi proposed to him for marriage. Ravi took the girl to Patna and introduced her to his family. With the consent of his family, the engagement was fixed on July 26,” said the police.
The fraud came to light when the woman accused the victim's aunt of stealing her gold jewellery and filed a complaint at Beur police station. During interrogation, it was found that her documents of being a doctor and passing a UPSC exam were fake.
DSP-cum-SHO of Beur police station, Nishant Gaurav told TOI, "The accused came to Patna on July 13 and she even participated in a puja organized on July 15 before their engagement. She was living with Ravi’s family in his house. Only July 17, she accused his aunt of stealing her gold jewellery and registered a complaint with Beur police station."
"On July 26, Ravi informed the police that the identity of the woman, with whom he was going to get engaged, was suspicious and she was trying to take away jewellery and valuables from his home. The woman was taken into police custody on Friday for questioning and several documents were recovered from her, including a newspaper clipping and ID card of AIIMS-Delhi. During verification, all the documents were found fake,” Gaurav added. Following this, the woman was arrested and an investigation is underway.
