Women staffers allege sexual harassment at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College Hospital, 2 doctors under scanner
Bengaluru: Serious allegations of sexual harassment have come to light against two doctors at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Hospital by seven women staffers including doctors, nurses and employees who alleged that they were unable to raise their voices during the period of harassment due to the latter's influential powers.
The victims have alleged that the sexual harassment occurred multiple times, targeting women doctors, nurses, and other employees however they were refrained from reporting the incidents, citing the backing of influential and powerful politicians enjoyed by the accused doctors.
These accused doctors here hold the position of medical superintendent and PRO at the medical college hospital.

The matter came to light when a letter was submitted to the medical education minister on October 1, 2023, detailing the accusations against the two accused doctors. The victims expressed concerns about their reluctance to speak out due to the perceived political support enjoyed by the accused.
Responding to the gravity of the situation, Director of Medical Education Dr Sujatha Rathod formed a committee to investigate the allegations promptly. The committee initially included three members, with Dr Asima Banu being the only woman member. However, she has been replaced by another official to avoid controversy.
The committee now consists of the chief medical officer of the Directorate of Medical Education, the joint director of the Medical Education Department, and a senior official from BMCRI. They have been tasked with conducting an investigation, recording statements, and submitting a report within seven days.
Clarifying that the reshuffling aimed to maintain transparency and fairness, Dr Rathod informed TNIE, “The committee comprising the chief medical officer of the Directorate of Medical Education, the joint director of the Medical Education Department and a senior official from BMCRI has been asked to conduct an investigation, record statements and submit a report within seven days." adding that any subsequent action would be based on the committee's findings.
On the other hand, one of the doctors involved has vehemently denied having any knowledge of the accusation made against him. He completely dismissed the claims, considering them "Baseless and False".
According to The Daily, he suggested that the victims might be motivated by hidden agendas. He hinted at a possible connection with the ongoing race for top administrative posts in the proposed hospital block construction.
The outcome of the committee's investigation is eagerly awaited, and it will play a pivotal role in determining the appropriate course of action in response to the serious allegations.
