Zirakpur doctor attacked, clinic vandalised by drug peddlers

Mohali: Raising his voice against an illegal activity turned into a traumatic incident for a doctor who was allegedly assaulted with swords, sticks, and stones, and threatened with death by a group of drug addicts consuming and peddling narcotics outside his clinic in the Godown area of Zirakpur. The doctor sustained serious injuries in the attack.
Apart from assaulting the doctor, the group also vandalised his family clinic. The assailants smashed glass panes, scattered medicines, and ransacked the premises.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the doctor stepped outside his clinic and noticed the group consuming and selling drugs on the street. According to him, they had been doing this repeatedly in the past.

That day, when he confronted the youths, they initially left but returned within minutes with reinforcements and launched the attack. To save himself, the doctor narrowly escaped by locking himself inside the clinic's bathroom when the attackers stormed the premises around 10 am.
After vandalising the property, the attackers fled but threatened to kill him. Soon after, nearby factory workers rescued the doctor and rushed him to Dhakoli Hospital for treatment, reports TOI.
Following the incident, the doctor filed a complaint at the Zirakpur police station. A case has been registered under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene acts), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC.
Police said they are investigating the case and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the culprits.
