AIIMS Jodhpur notified as Centre of Excellence under National Policy for Rare Diseases
Jodhpur: In a great effort to strengthen the healthcare facilities in the state, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur, has been included as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Rare Diseases under the National Policy for Rare Diseases (NPRD) 2021.
The facility will now be well-equipped to diagnose, prevent and treat rare diseases. The Ministry of Health and Family Healthcare recently issued a memorandum on 12th October regarding the inclusion of AIIMS Jodhpur as a Centre of Excellence. The memo had been signed by the Under Secretary to the Government of India, Mr. Swarendu Singha.
" The undersigned is directed to refer to subject mentioned above and to say that in pursuant to Para 9.1 of the National Policy for Rare Diseases (NPRD), 2021, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur has been included as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Rare Diseases, which will be premier Government tertiary hospital with facilities for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of rare diseases", stated the office memorandum.
It further added that the responsibilities and activities of the Institute will be in accordance to the provisions mentioned under Para 9.2 of the National Policy for Rare Diseases (NPRD), 2021. This came into effect from the date of issue of the Office Memorandum.
In order to provide facilities for the treatment and care of patients suffering from rare diseases previously eight (08) Centres of Excellence have been notified, which are premier Government tertiary hospitals with facilities for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of rare diseases. The list includes institutes like All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research, Kolkata.
AIIMS Jodhpur is one of the Six NEW AIIMS established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) with the aim of correcting regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attaining self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education.
