1,770 Ventilators available, 485 to be added soon: Telangana Health Dept

Telangana: The Telangana Health Department has stated that 1,770 ventilators are currently available in government hospitals across the state, while 485 ventilators are in the process of being procured.
The information was shared in response to questions raised by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA G Madhusudan Reddy to the State Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha.
According to the department, four MRI machines are currently available in government hospitals, including Osmania General Hospital (OGH), Gandhi Hospital, the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Warangal, and the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Adilabad.
However, eight MRI machines, which are soon to be installed in government hospitals, including Niloufer Hospital, OGH, and Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad, as well as in government hospitals in Nizamabad, Siddipet, Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Mahabubnagar, are currently in the procurement process.
Additionally, government hospitals are equipped with 39 CT scan machines and 195 X-ray machines. However, eight CT scan machines are also being procured, which will be installed in the government hospitals at Nirmal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Vikarabad, Asifabad, Mulugu, OGH, and Gandhi Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Department was asked whether the government was aware of the shortage of medical equipment in government hospitals, to which the Department replied, "No", reports The Siasat Daily.
Furthermore, the department was also asked about the appointment of doctors in government hospitals. In response, the department stated that the Congress government has appointed 2,204 doctors in district hospitals since December 2023, and currently, 4,921 specialist doctors are posted in these hospitals.
The department stated that 2,278 vacancies will be filled by April 2026, including 1,623 Civil Assistant Surgeon Specialists, 607 Assistant Professors and Specialists, and 48 Assistant Dental Surgeons.
