45-year-old man dies at BK Civil Hospital, friends allege treatment delay
Faridabad: A 45-year-old man died at the BK Civil Hospital in Faridabad, triggering tension as his friends alleged a delay in treatment and claimed they were forced to carry him to the third floor due to a non-functional elevator.
The deceased has been identified as Faiz Ahmed, a welder hailing from the Gopalganj district of Bihar, who had been residing in Sanjay Colony for years. He reportedly collapsed suddenly at his home on Monday morning.
Suddenly, he began experiencing severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. Consequently, when his condition deteriorated, his friends immediately rushed him to a government hospital. According to his friends, he complained of feeling unwell while he was washing clothes, and shortly thereafter, he lost consciousness.
One of the deceased’s friends, Taufiq and his other friends immediately took him to the BK Civil Hospital. They alleged that instead of providing immediate treatment, the hospital staff asked them to complete the formalities first.
As per the TOI media news report, the friends alleged that upon their arrival, the staff first asked them to procure an OPD card and slip. As the doctor will attend to him only after this formality will be completed. They further alleged that they were compelled to carry him up to the third floor via a long underground ramp, as the elevator was out of order.
However, the hospital administration dismissed both claims, stating that the patient was brought in in an extremely critical, "near-death" condition and was treated without any delay.
In response to this, Faridabad's Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jayant Ahuja, stated that when he was brought in, his condition was already critical, and the lift was fully functional. "There was no delay caused by any technical glitch”, he added.
Meanwhile, others present at the hospital termed the incident "gross negligence" and stated that basic services in emergency facilities, particularly functional elevators, should be available at all times.
This incident brought the hospital's emergency response and infrastructure into the spotlight.
