Adani group to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal, foundation stone laid for 2,000-bed hospital
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir at Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub, New Town, Kolkata. Beyond healthcare, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani also announced plans to invest over Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035 across multiple sectors.
The project, which will be closely aligned with West Bengal’s 2026 Healthcare Vision, will be executed by the Adani Foundation and will cater to over 200,000 inpatients and more than 2 million outpatients annually and generate about 10,000 jobs, according to a press release. Envisioned as a world-class Academic Medical Centre and a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem for Eastern India and beyond, the project will entail an investment of over Rs 4,000 crore.
Spread across 51.75 acres, the Adani Arogya Mandir will be a multi-speciality hospital, alongside step-down and transitional care facilities. The comprehensive ecosystem will also have a Meditel and Vishram Gruh, providing accommodation for relatives of patients receiving care at the hospital.

“Mr Adani, we look forward to your presence to rebuild Bengal. The final vision is not just a hospital campus, it will be a fully integrated healthcare city. Nowhere in India is there a hospital of this high standard. The hospital will give a big boost to medical tourism. This is historic, meaningful and an auspicious day for us. Viksit Bharat 2047 can happen only if Bengal develops,” said Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Mr Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group, said, “The Adani Arogya Mandir will be a world-class, not-for-profit medical institution that will have 2,000 beds - with a thousand beds catering to economically weaker sections of society, eligible under State and Central health insurance schemes”.
Drawing a parallel with Mundra in Gujarat that became the Group’s foundation for mega-projects, Mr Adani referred to the state as the Group’s karmabhoomi in the East.
He also announced an investment roadmap of over Rs 1 lakh crore by 2035 in the state across sectors spanning ports, logistics, renewable energy, power generation, power transmission and distribution, roads and bridges, green cement and hyperscale data centres.
The Adani Arogya Mandir campus will feature a medical college, with an annual intake of 150 undergraduates, 100+ postgraduates and 40+ super-specialists. It will also include a College of Nursing and an institution for allied healthcare and paramedical education, creating a multidisciplinary ecosystem for the next generation of doctors, nurses, technicians and allied healthcare professionals. The broader campus ecosystem will also provide residential facilities for the healthcare professionals and their families.
In its first phase, the multi-speciality hospital will focus on cancer care, providing advanced tertiary and highly specialised healthcare services.
The Adani Arogya Mandir will develop a research ecosystem encompassing genomics, precision medicine, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence, clinical trials, molecular and other applied biomedical sciences. The hospital will emphasise translating scientific discoveries into improved diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
The institution will work with international partners to co-create new knowledge, technologies, clinical pathways and intellectual property, bringing global scientific expertise and capabilities into an Indian research environment. This research will tackle India’s unique healthcare priorities while producing scientific solutions that benefit the entire world.
The Adani Foundation has engaged Mayo Clinic Global Consulting in the United States and Singapore's SingHealth to bring global expertise in clinical care, academic medicine, digital health, quality, workforce development and innovation.
The investment will establish a major healthcare and academic institution in Kolkata and create the platform for subsequent development of Centres of Excellence across specialities and super-specialities in Phase II. By creating a comprehensive destination, Adani Arogya Mandir Kolkata will help reduce outward health migration from the region.
Alongside the Adani Group’s industrial and healthcare initiatives in the state, Mr Adani also announced support for revitalisation of the renowned Kumartuli Ghat. The Group signed two MoUs with the Government of West Bengal for restoration of the historic Writers' Building and promoting the art and spirit of Kolkata’s Durga Pujas to the global stage through Adani Pujo Preview. The initiative will support puja organisers, artists, artisans, service providers and the wider ecosystem of Bengal.
