AIIMS Bhubaneshwar begins Daycare, OPD services for Cancer patients
Bhubaneshwar: In order to provide better healthcare facilities to the cancer patients in the state, a new separate daycare service and outpatient department (OPD) service have been inaugurated at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneshwar's Oncology division.
This new initiative will reduce the workload and the burden of patients in the medical oncology division and the haematology department which earlier ran parallel OPDs and daycare.
The patients of the capital can now avail of the facilities of a new separate daycare service and outpatient department (OPD) service which has been inaugurated at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneshwar's Oncology division of the medical oncology/ haematology department.
The facility was inaugurated by AIIMS Bhubaneswar director Mukesh Tripathi. The inauguration took place at the G block of the main building of AIIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, he said "The daycare and OPD services will certainly help the cancer patients requiring chemotherapy."
The Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC) in Cuttack holds the state's first medical oncology division in the government sector, placing this AIIMS facility in second place.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar Medical Superintendent Dr Sachidananda Mohanty, HOD Medical Oncology/Haematology Department Dr Prabodh Das, JMS Dr JS Pillai, Associate Professor Dr Sourav Kumar Mishra and Assistant Professor Dr Ilavarasi Vanidassane of Medical Oncology Division were present at the occasion.

An official in the hospital told TOI "This will be a great help for the cancer patients who need not wait in long queues for their consultation. The department will do OPDs on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the daycare services will run all weekdays." He also added that patients seeking consultation can register directly at the G block of the building.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar is one of the apex healthcare Institutes established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Under this scheme six new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences have been established in Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur and Rishikesh apart from the one in New Delhi.
