AIIMS Bibinagar introduces community radio for healthcare outreach

AIIMS Bibinagar Launches Health Radio
Bibinagar: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bibinagar in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district has introduced a community radio service broadcasting on 89.6 FM, becoming the first AIIMS institution in India to set up such a facility.
The initiative is intended to extend healthcare communication beyond the boundaries of the hospital and ensure that medical information is more easily available to the public.
According to the news reports, the radio station is designed to serve people living within roughly a 10-kilometre range, particularly those in rural and underserved regions where access to healthcare resources and credible information can be limited. Through regular broadcasts, it will share awareness messages on health, guidance on preventing diseases, and information related to public health programmes and initiatives.
According to officials, the programming will feature expert-led discussions, informative segments, and focused campaigns that highlight the importance of early detection, preventive care, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. These efforts aim to strengthen public understanding of health issues and encourage individuals to make informed decisions about their well-being.

An important component of the initiative is an interactive programme called “Dial a Doctor,” which gives listeners the opportunity to speak directly with qualified medical professionals. Through this segment, individuals can raise their health-related queries and receive prompt guidance on common medical issues. By enabling real-time interaction, the programme is expected to make healthcare advice more accessible, particularly for those who may find it difficult to visit hospitals frequently, reports TOI.
Dr. A. S. Subathra, who heads the operational committee of the community radio station, highlighted that such efforts play a significant role in reducing the disconnect between healthcare providers and the communities they serve. She noted that improved communication can foster greater trust and encourage people to seek timely medical advice. Residents living within the coverage area have been urged to listen to the broadcasts regularly so they can stay informed through clear, accurate, and easy-to-understand health information.
