New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has recently introduced the plan of redevelopment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi as a "world-class medical university". An expansion plan with the new hospital for 3,000 beds, a new academic building, research buildings for multiple graduate and postgraduate programs, and new hostel blocks will come up, according to the press note.

The meeting was held by the agency which was led by Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, revealed their expansion plan for five parcels of land covering 79.73 hectares.
The campus has been given the name of "Education & Research University", according to the Master Plan of Delhi 2021 (MPD-2021).
The agency told The Hindu, "it has changed the land use of the West Ansari Nagar campus, which comprises an area of 1.69 hectares, from recreational to public and semi-public facilities". Unified development control norms have also been assigned to the campus."
While in the press conference DDA also shared other plans which include setting up an e-waste management park in Delhi.
Earlier Medical Dialogues team had reported about a case at AIIMS Delhi, which for the first time in India received a referral of a 27-week old fetus suffering from Bronchopulmonary Sequestration (BPS). The fetus had a large lung mass which was causing a collection of fluid in the chest, leading to compression of the heart and lungs.
BPS is a rare birth defect in which an abnormal mass of nonfunctioning lung tissue forms during prenatal development. It can form outside (extra lobar) or inside (intra lobar) the lungs but is not connected directly to the airways.
