AIIMS Mangalagiri inaugurates gamma camera, high-dose therapy facility

Mangalagiri: The Department of Nuclear Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, inaugurated a Gamma Camera (SPECT-CT) and a High-Dose Therapy facility on Tuesday.
Executive Director Ahanthem Santa Singh inaugurated the new technology and the therapy ward, according to a press note issued by the institute.
As per the note, the SPECT-CT is a diagnostic imaging system capable of performing functional imaging of various organs of the body. This technology aids in the early and accurate detection of diseases through more than 30 different types of scans, thereby facilitating the timely initiation of treatment and the achievement of better clinical outcomes. This technology has been procured at a cost of ₹10 crore, while the price of diagnostic scans will range between ₹150 and ₹1,500.
Meanwhile, the high-dose therapy ward has been commissioned to provide advanced radionuclide therapy, particularly for patients with thyroid cancer. This facility will play a crucial role in reducing recurrence rates and improving long-term prognosis, according to the press release, reports The Hindu.
Earlier this year, Medical Dialogues had reported that, describing India's evolving healthcare landscape as a story of expanding access and renewed hope, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that universal health coverage is no longer a distant aspiration but an achievable reality. Addressing the 2nd Convocation Ceremony of AIIMS Mangalagiri, she told graduating doctors that they carry the hopes of millions and will play a crucial role in shaping a more equitable and compassionate healthcare system.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel addressed the 2nd Convocation Ceremony of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, today, in the presence of Shri Nara Lokesh, Minister for Information Technology, Electronics, Communications, and Human Resources, Andhra Pradesh.
