AIIMS Raipur Virology lab gets NABL Accreditation for 12 Viral Infections

Raipur: The Virology Laboratory of AIIMS Raipur, officially known as the State Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) under the Department of Microbiology, achieved a significant milestone by receiving its first NABL accreditation on 1st August 2025.
The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)has accredited the VRDL for the diagnosis of 12 major human viral infections, including: Viral Meningitis/Encephalitis, Viral Pneumonia due to COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2), Swine Flu (H1N1), Influenza B, RSV, 14 High-Risk Human Papillomavirus (HR-HPV), which causes cervical cancer, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Hepatitis B and C viral load, Dengue
Established in 2018, the laboratory has been providing vital diagnostic services not only to patients at AIIMS Raipur but also to samples received from across Chhattisgarh. It plays a key role in testing for COVID-19, Hepatitis A/B/C/E, and Dengue, and is actively involved in outbreak investigations of viral diseases such as Chickenpox, Conjunctivitis, and Mumps.

The lab also serves as the State Nodal Centre for COVID-19 testing, quality control, and whole genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2.
Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd), Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Raipur, congratulated the team for this achievement, describing NABL accreditation as an important step toward national recognition for offering state-of-the-art diagnostic services to the people of Chhattisgarh.
Prof.. (Dr.) Anudita Bhargava praised the NABL recognition as the fruit of teamwork and dedication by the entire lab staff. Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Singh Negi emphasized that the accreditation under ISO 15189:2022 reflects a high standard of quality assurance in diagnostic testing.
This achievement was made possible through the hard work of the entire team, including: Dr. Madhavi Madkey (Assistant Professor), Senior Residents: Dr. Sajeetha, Dr. Atish, Dr. Sushree, Dr. Gargee, Research Scientists-C: Shri Kuldeep Sharma, Dr. Pushpendra Singh, Scientist-B: Dr. Ruchi Khare, Research Assistant: Mr. Jiyan Chandrawanshi, Lab Technicians: Mr. Mohd. Rafiqullah Khan, Mr. Hanuman Prasad, Data Entry Operator: Mr. Kushan Parganiha, MTS: Mr. Amit Mishra, along with many other dedicated research staff.
