Alleged Negligence at Jawaddi Govt Hospital: Cotton Roll Left Inside Abdomen after Childbirth for 28 days, Doctors Say Patient was Misguided
Ludhiana: Medical Negligence has been reported at a Government hospital, Jawaddi, where a cotton roll was allegedly left inside the abdomen of a patient after undergoing childbirth.
The cotton roll that was kept to stop the bleeding was allegedly left inside the abdomen for 28 days and the family of the patient came to know about the matter after approaching a private hospital for check-up.
As per a recent media report, the cotton roll was allegedly removed at the same government hospital on Thursday. However, the doctors at the hospital have denied any negligence on their part and they have claimed that the patient was misguided about the matter.
The 22-years-old patient, Pardeep Kaur hails from Pabbian village and she had approached the government hospital for childbirth. After delivering a boy on December 8, she was discharged by the hospital and went back to her home.
Hindustan Times adds that the patient later developed pain and came to know about it after approaching a private hospital for check-up. Providing details regarding the matter, the husband of the patient Kamalpreet Singh told the daily, “We came to know about the cotton roll after my wife felt pain. We thought it must be due to cold weather and stitches. But later when we came for a check-up, the hospital gave us pain medication and said the patient was normal.”
“With time, however, the infection increased and we went to a private hospital for a check-up. There we came to know that a cotton roll had been left inside. The hospital staff later told us that they had kept the cotton to stop bleeding, but forgot to inform us about getting it removed after three-four days,” he added.
However, the government hospital has denied the allegations of negligence on their part. Speaking about the matter, the Gynaecology medical officer of Jawaddi government hospital, Seema Kaushal refuted all such allegations and added, “There was no such case of negligence. The patient had some misunderstanding and was misguided.”
