Andhra Pradesh to get 8 ESI Hospitals, 18 dispensaries

Vishakhapatnam: The state is all set to come up with eight new Employees' State Insurance (ESI) hospitals along with 18 new ESI dispensaries, based on the in-principle approval given by the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Corporation.
The information was conveyed by Union Minister for Labour Ramesh Teli while responding to a query of Anakapalle MP B Satyavati in the Lok Sabha on Monday, who further stated that establishing ESI hospitals is an ongoing process.

The eight new hospitals which are set to come up include a 400-bed hospital in Visakhapatnam; six 100-bed hospitals at Guntur, Vizianagaram, Kakinada, Penukonda, Visakhapatnam, Sri City, Nellore, and Nellore; and a 30-bed ESI hospital at Atchutapuram in Anakapalle district.
Further, the 18 new ESI dispensaries would be set up in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Annakapalle, Nakkapalli, Ongole, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Naidupet, Satyavedu, Puthalapattu, Veradhaipanem, Kanchikacherla, Chillakur, Tuni, Etcherla, Appanaveedu, Muthukur, Paravada, and Mudenepalli.
Further, minister Teli stated that ESI hospitals are established on the basis of the number of insured persons (IPs) in an area, as per the corporation norms. After continuous requests and proposals from the state government, the ESI corporation gave approval for the new hospitals and dispensaries, said the union minister, reports The New Indian Express.
The Employees' State Insurance Scheme is an integrated measure of Social Insurance embodied in the Employees' State Insurance Act to protect workers against the impact of incidences of sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to insured persons and their families. Employees of the aforesaid categories of factories and establishments, drawing wages up to Rs.15,000 per month, are entitled to social security cover under the ESI Act.
