AP: Apollo Hospitals Aragonda successfully performs 500 knee replacement surgeries in 4 years
Aragonda: A 3km long walkathon was organised by the Aragonda branch of the Apollo Hospitals, starting from the Government High School to the hospital as part of its campaign to raise awareness on 'total knee replacement' and to mark the completion of 500 such surgeries by the hospital.
The walkathon saw the participation of a team of orthopedic surgeons from Chennai and Aragonda and 2,000 students from various high schools in Tavanampalle and Irala mandals.

Apollo Hospitals chief surgeon Madhan Mohan Reddy, also former Director of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD)'s BIRRD Hospital spoke at a press conference in Aragonda, where Reddy observed that the hospital got a record of performing 500 total knee replacement surgeries in four years, reports the Hindu.
He said, "All the patients were from the rural areas of Rayalaseema districts, availing the facility at a subsidized cost of ₹1.5 lakh per each procedure as against the regular charges of ₹3.5 lakh in corporate hospitals."
Apollo Hospitals group president G. Narottham Reddy said, "The record of performing 500 total knee replacement surgeries in Aragonda Hospital was achieved due to a series of awareness programmes in the villages and the subsidized tariff. We are committed to completing 1,000 surgeries by 2023." He further observed that the Aragonda branch has begun surgical procedures to treat hip and spine-related ailments at affordable rates.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in a move to provide advanced cancer care treatments to patients, Apollo Hospitals — one of Asia's foremost and trusted integrated private healthcare services providers, had expanded its wings abroad by entering Tanzania. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Apollo hospital and Eclipse Group, Africa, to establish a cancer treatment center in the Msasani area, Dar es Salaam.
