AP: Doctors remove one metre cloth left in woman's stomach during hysterectomy eight months ago
Vijayawada: In a reported case of medical negligence, a one-metre long cloth was removed from a woman's stomach months after she underwent a hysterectomy operation at a Mylavaram-based private hospital in the NTR district of Andhra Pradesh.
The doctors at the private hospital, identified as Anu Hospitals, allegedly left the cloth inside her stomach while operating on her eight months ago while stitching her after removing the uterus.
The matter came to the fore when the woman began experiencing severe pain in her stomach. Her family took her back to the hospital, following which CT scans were conducted on her. But the scans reportedly failed to reveal anything.
The woman's family took her to another private hospital in Vijayawada, where they performed ultrasonography on her. The ultrasonography revealed that there was a piece of cloth inside her stomach, which was then removed by the doctors through surgery. The doctors were reportedly shocked at the piece of cloth found inside her body, as per a media report in Telangana Today.
The patient, a resident of Machilipatnam, also expressed her shock at the revelation and the medical negligence.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported another case of medical negligence where a Panchkula-based private hospital fraudulently kept a patient in the COVID ward during the pandemic in January 2022 by lying about the patient's Covid report. The hospital management had been booked for negligence and overcharging based on the patient's complaint. The complainant stated that he was diabetic and was taken to Ojas Hospital on January 6, 2022, because of chest heaviness caused by a cough. However, after conducting various tests, the hospital lied to the family and said that Chand is COVID positive.
