Bihar Health Secretary sets 3-month deadline for 500-bed teaching hospital at IGIMS Patna

Patna: Bihar Health Secretary Kumar Ravi reviewed the progress of the redevelopment and expansion work at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, and directed that the under-construction 500-bed teaching hospital be completed within the next three months.
During the visit, he assessed the status of several ongoing healthcare infrastructure projects, including the under-construction 500-bed teaching hospital, the proposed 1,200-bed hospital, hostels and residential buildings, while setting August 31 as the deadline for completion of all internal and external HVAC works.
At the review meeting, Ravi instructed the construction agency to complete the 500-bed teaching hospital within the next three months. He further directed officials to conduct weekly progress reviews to ensure the project remains on schedule.
According to a report by Patna Press, Ravi also held a review meeting with institute officials and representatives of the executing agencies to assess the pace of work and identify pending tasks. The pending work includes installation of the chiller plant, cooling towers, pumps, water treatment systems, along with associated piping and ducting.
As per the Bihar Health Department’s press release, Ravi also asked the agency to prioritise pending HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) work.
The Health Secretary also reviewed the construction of the proposed 1,200-bed hospital and related hostel and residential facilities. Officials informed him that 59.24% of the project has been completed so far. He directed the executing agencies to expedite the remaining work while maintaining construction quality and completing the projects within the communicated timeline.
At the end of the review, Ravi reiterated the Bihar government’s commitment to improving the state’s healthcare infrastructure. He instructed the concerned agencies to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing projects so that upgraded medical facilities become available to the public at the earliest.
