Alwar: In a shocking incident, a senior doctor was injured after a portion of the ceiling plaster and a ceiling fan collapsed on him while he was attending to patients at a government satellite hospital in Alwar, Rajasthan, on Monday. The incident has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of public healthcare infrastructure in the district.
According to hospital officials, the incident occurred at the Satellite Hospital in the Kala Kuan area of Alwar city while the doctor was examining a patient in the outpatient department (OPD). During the consultation, he reportedly heard unusual sounds coming from the ceiling. Within moments, a section of the plaster gave way, bringing down the ceiling fan along with it.

The impact left the doctor with serious head injuries, while the patient present in the room also suffered minor injuries. Hospital staff immediately rushed to the spot, provided first aid, and shifted the injured doctor for medical attention. He was later referred to another hospital for additional treatment.
Hospital officials said he sustained a deep head injury that required stitches, along with injuries to his right arm and leg.
Following the accident, Additional District Magistrate (City) Ambalal Meena visited the hospital to inspect the site and assess the condition of the building. He said the structural condition of the hospital was being evaluated and that instructions had been issued to the concerned departments to undertake necessary repairs based on the assessment, reports India Today.
Hospital authorities also raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of the building. Dr. Pramila Meena said the structure had been in poor condition for nearly 10 months and that the Public Works Department (PWD) had already been informed. She added that repair work estimated at around Rs 16 lakh had been sanctioned four months ago, but work had not yet started.
A similar incident was earlier reported at a primary health centre (PHC) in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, where a portion of the roof collapsed, causing panic among staff and villagers.

He called for immediate structural safety audits of ageing government healthcare facilities and accountability for lapses in maintenance.
The latest incident has intensified demands for immediate structural audits, timely repairs, and better maintenance of government hospitals to ensure the safety of doctors, medical staff, and patients.
