Centre clarifies No Proposal for AIIMS in Moradabad

Moradabad: In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, clarified that there are no current plans to establish a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The Minister highlighted that a total of 22 AIIMS have been approved across various states and Union Territories, including two in Uttar Pradesh—one in Raebareli and the other in Gorakhpur.
The government has also undertaken significant upgrades to several government medical colleges (GMCs) in the state. The upgraded facilities include super-specialty services, which are expected to improve healthcare access for residents of Uttar Pradesh. Some of the notable institutions that have benefited from this initiative include SGPGIMS in Lucknow, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh, and Trauma Centre in IMS, BHU, Varanasi.
Additionally, the Minister noted that two medical colleges—Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh and LLRM Medical College in Meerut—are located within a 150-kilometer radius of Moradabad. These institutions are already equipped with enhanced medical facilities that can cater to the medical needs of the residents of Moradabad and the surrounding regions.
