Chatra Sadar Hospital Doctor Under Scrutiny for Alleged C Section Denial
Chatra: The Chatra Sadar Hospital administration came under scrutiny after a 25-year-old woman was allegedly denied a Caesarean section (C-section) procedure despite being in labor. The incident has raised serious concerns about the hospital's patient care.
The woman, identified as a 25-year-old resident of Salaiya Jori village, arrived at the hospital with her husband seeking medical assistance as she was experiencing intense labor pains. However, despite enduring hours of labor, the woman was reportedly informed by the attending physician, that a C-section was not possible at the facility. The doctor allegedly suggested that the family take her to a private hospital for the procedure instead.
The woman's family eventually reached out to Chatra MP Kalicharan Singh, who dispatched his representatives to the hospital. Due to political pressure, the doctors admitted the woman and carried out the surgery. The woman ultimately gave birth to a boy.
In response, district authorities stated that the doctors would be issued a show-cause notice, and one day's salary would be withheld.
Speaking to TOI the husband said, “My wife went into labour and we brought her to the hospital around midnight. A nurse said there would be a normal delivery in the next five to six hours. We waited till 7 am and with the delivery still not happening, we approached the nurse. She told us that normal delivery would not be possible anymore. Dr Agrawal arrived at 9 am and referred my wife to a private hospital. Considering the pain she was in, we asked the doctor to conduct the surgery at the Sadar hospital itself.”
Yadav then met the deputy superintendent of the hospital, Dr Manish Lal, and appealed to him to ask Dr Agrawal to conduct the operation. “But when Dr Lal requested the doctor and her husband Dr Praveen Kumar, they misbehaved and left the hospital,'' Yadav claimed.

Dr Agarwal explained that she had initially refused to conduct the surgery due to the patient’s elevated blood pressure and the lack of an operating theatre assistant at that moment.
According to TOI, Civil surgeon Dr Dinesh Kumar said, “It is an unfortunate incident. The doctor in question will be issued a show-cause notice and her salary will be withheld for the day.”
