CM Siddaramaiah lays foundation for Rs 100 crore NIMHANS-like facility in Mysuru

Siddaramaiah
Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for a NIMHANS-type healthcare facility in Mysuru, a project estimated to cost Rs 100 crore in the Varuna Assembly constituency on January 19, 2026. The new institution, to be established under the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI), is aimed at strengthening public healthcare in the region by providing advanced neurology and mental health services.
According to the news reports, the Revenue Department has officially transferred the land required for the facility to the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI), which will oversee the establishment and operation of the institution.

“People need not travel to Bengaluru’s NIMHANS for neurology-related treatment once the proposed institution near Mysuru becomes operational,” said MMCRI Dean and Director K.R. Dakshayani. She confirmed that the relevant land documents have been officially handed over to the MMCRI for executing the project, reports the Hindu.
In the initial phase, a G+5 building will be constructed on one acre of land, alongside a G+1 de-addiction centre. The campus will also include essential facilities such as a blood bank, laboratory, and rehabilitation centre. Plans for future expansion include residential quarters for doctors and staff to support long-term operations.
The institution will house specialised departments including neurosurgery, neuro-radiology, neuro-anaesthesia, and neuro-psychiatry.
Speaking to the Hindu, Dean mentioned, “The facility’s proximity to Mysuru airport will make it accessible to patients from across the region.”
