CM Sukhu orders measures to improve diagnostics in medical colleges

Shimla- To ensure a 'zero waiting period' for diagnostic services in medical colleges across Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the Health Department to propose suitable measures soon.
A review meeting of senior health officials was held on Monday evening, and the directive was issued.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to strengthen healthcare delivery and asked officials to explore the feasibility of establishing an integrated 'Mother and Child Hospital' at the Indira Gandhi Medical College.
In this regard, a committee headed by Secretary Ashish Singhmar has been constituted to identify a suitable location within the IGMC campus for establishing this facility. The objective of this initiative is to provide comprehensive care under a single roof, according to TOI.
The State Government is focusing on equipping healthcare institutions with advanced and state-of-the-art diagnostic machines, as well as ensuring the availability of adequate staff, to improve patient care.
Therefore, upgrading diagnostic services was of utmost importance, as timely and accurate diagnosis constitutes the backbone of effective treatment.
In addition, to address the shortage of staff in healthcare institutions, the government is also actively filling vacant positions across medical, paramedical, and technical categories.
Since health and education have remained the top priorities of their government, substantial investments have been made to bring about systemic reforms in these sectors. Hence, there is no shortage of funds for these critical areas.
Furthermore, the government was implementing major reforms to ensure accessible and quality healthcare services for the people.
Last month, Medical Dialogues had reported that Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had inaugurated the Metropolitan Surveillance Unit (MSU) at Boileauganj in Shimla. The facility, established at a cost of Rs. 1.56 crore, is a specialised urban health monitoring system equipped with modern technologies.
