Crackdown on Meerut Hospitals: 13 licenses revoked, 2 suspended over Medical Negligence complaints, Inadequate Staff
Meerut: In a major crackdown on the healthcare facilities in Meerut, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the district issued orders and revoked the licenses of 13 private hospitals and suspended two others.
Action was taken against these hospitals after complaints were lodged alleging medical negligence and insufficient healthcare staff, TOI has reported.
As per the Daily, more than 50 medical facilities in the district were targeted on Saturday evening. The CMO , Dr. Ashok Kataria received complaints against the private healthcare facilities over the past several months and initiated inquiries into the allegations.
When these allegations of medical negligence and other claims were confirmed by the Investigative teams, the licenses for 13 hospitals were revoked and two other facilities were suspended.

Commenting on the matter, CMP Dr. Ashok Kataria told the Times of India, "We have received multiple complaints over the past several months, prompting inquiries into these allegations. Investigative teams confirmed the claims, leading to the revocation of licenses for 13 hospitals and the suspension of two. Additionally, FIRs were filed against four hospitals for continuing to operate despite the crackdown."
He further mentioned that the enforcement actions also targeted three pathology labs, two diagnostic centers, and 38 unlicenses practitioners, also known as quacks.
However, referring to the action taken against the private hospitals, Dr. Kataria informed that this was just the initial phase of the crackdown as there were further plans to take actions against more violators.
"This is just the initial phase of our crackdown, and we plan to take further strict actions against more violators. Long-standing complaints from patients and their attendants about negligence and a lack of qualified personnel necessitated these actions," added Dr. Kataria.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that last year a Lucknow-based surgeon along with six staff of a private hospital had been booked by police for alleged medical negligence leading to the death of a woman patient during gallbladder-related surgery.
