Delhi LG nod for recruiting 1,463 healthcare staff on outsourced basis

The total vacancies of the 1,463 healthcare staff include 701 registered nurses and 762 paramedical workers. With the help of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like ICSIL, NICSI, BECIL, and HLL, hospitals can now fill open positions with less stringent hiring requirements, reports India Today.

A high-level committee, led by Dr SK Sarin of Delhi's Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, recommended this course of action, and it was ultimately approved. This panel was established following an order from the Delhi High Court, which requested that the Delhi government provide a report outlining their strategy to upgrade the city's healthcare system to accommodate the increasing number of residents, reports the Daily.

The High Court raised the issue of insufficient healthcare workers and highlighted that, according to Article 47 of the Constitution, the state is obligated to improve the standard of living and nourishment of its population, which includes providing appropriate healthcare. Rather than focussing on who was at fault, it called for massive funding and systemic changes to public hospitals.

A severe lack of nursing and paramedical personnel is preventing the capital from providing adequate healthcare, according to the committee headed by Dr Sarin, which was established in response to court orders. The panel urged that outsourced agencies be brought in immediately to make up for the shortage of staff. Improved patient care, shorter wait times, and less stress on current healthcare staff are all goals of the new recruitment plan.
