District Government Headquarters Hospital, Kumbakonam gets Rs 5.4 crore infrastructure boost

Kumbakonam: The District Government Headquarters Hospital in Kumbakonam is set to receive a significant upgrade with the construction of a new radiology block. This development marks a major milestone in enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the region.

The foundation stone for the project was laid on Tuesday by Health Minister Ma. Subramanian and Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. The upgrades include a waiting hall, a dialysis ward, and a paid treatment ward, all aimed at improving patient care and hospital efficiency.

The Ministers inaugurated several new facilities at the hospital, including a waiting hall and a dialysis ward, which were constructed at a cost of ₹4.38 crore. Additionally, a paid treatment ward, established at a cost of ₹33.60 lakh, was also opened. Furthermore, they unveiled a new nursing quarter at the Primary Health Centre in Patteeswaram.

The Ministers had earlier inaugurated a new building at the Primary Health Centre in Ammapettai. This facility, built at a cost of ₹75 lakh, was funded by the Rajya Sabha member S. Kalyanasundaram’s MP Local Area Development Scheme. The inauguration was attended by Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam, senior officials, and elected representatives.

Following the inauguration, Mr Subramanian, a prominent figure in the state’s health sector, chaired a comprehensive review meeting with officials from the Health Department across the districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Pudukottai. The meeting, which was also attended by the Deans of government medical colleges in the region, focused on assessing the current healthcare challenges and strategizing improvements.

During the meeting, Mr Subramanian announced several important measures to enhance healthcare delivery. According to The Hindu, he outlined plans to install closed-circuit television cameras at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and to address staffing vacancies at PHCs, government hospitals, and medical college hospitals.

The meeting was attended by J. Ramamoorthy, Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, and T.S. Selvavinayagam, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

These developments underscore a sustained commitment to improving healthcare services and infrastructure in Kumbakonam and the surrounding areas. With the introduction of these new initiatives and facilities, the local healthcare system is set to deliver enhanced services and a higher standard of care to the community. The upgrades are anticipated to reduce the burden on nearby hospitals and significantly elevate the quality of healthcare services in the region.
