ESI Hospital Asansol to be ugraded into ESIC Medical College and Hospital

Asansol: In a major step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure for insured workers and their dependants under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, ESI Hospital, Asansol, has been handed over by the Government of West Bengal to the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Ministry of Labour & Employment, for its proposed upgradation into an ESIC Medical College and Hospital.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the handing over was exchanged between Regional Director, ESIC West Bengal, Shri Amarnath Tiwari, and Additional Director, ESI (MB) Scheme, Government of West Bengal, Shri Abhijit Bose, in the presence of Insurance Commissioner (North East Zone), ESIC, Shri Pranay Sinha, and other senior officers of ESIC and the Government of West Bengal.
Following the transfer, ESI Hospital, Asansol, will function under the administrative control of ESIC, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India. The transition marks an important milestone in the Government's efforts to expand and modernise healthcare services for beneficiaries covered under the ESI Scheme, the PIB stated.

The handing over has been undertaken in view of the proposed upgradation of the existing hospital into an ESIC Medical College and Hospital. The upgraded institution is envisaged to provide advanced medical facilities, specialised healthcare services and quality medical education, catering to the growing healthcare needs of insured persons, their family members, dependants and the people of the region.
The proposed ESIC Medical College and Hospital is expected to significantly enhance the quality, accessibility and reach of healthcare services in the Asansol region by integrating healthcare facilities with medical education and training. It will also strengthen the healthcare delivery network of ESIC in West Bengal.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the UP Cabinet has recently approved the proposal to transfer the state-run Employees State Insurance (ESI) Hospital located at Pandu Nagar in Kanpur to the Central government, to develop it as a medical college and super-speciality hospital.
