Fake doctor arrested at KGMU for allegedly targeting female students

Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow has come under scrutiny following the arrest of a man accused of posing as a resident doctor and allegedly targeting female medical students as part of a fraudulent religious conversion racket.

As per the news reports, the accused impersonated a doctor and approached students not only at KGMU but also at other medical colleges. Investigators claim he specifically targeted Hindu women. In one reported instance, he allegedly issued fake letters in the name of All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi (AIIMS Delhi), promising to take students to a medical conference.

Investigators further claim that he created a fake organisation named “Cardio Seva Sansthan Trust” and allegedly used it to take women to camps in areas with a Muslim-majority population. The group’s display picture reportedly carried the image of a KGMU doctor. Police also allege that he collected money from patients under false pretences.

Police have confirmed his arrest and stated that further interrogation is underway to uncover the full extent of his activities and any potential accomplices.

The case came to light after KGMU formed an internal committee following separate allegations against a resident doctor who is accused of sexually exploiting a colleague under the pretext of marriage and pressuring her to convert to Islam.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a joint team of the Surveillance Unit of West Lucknow and Police Station Chowk had arrested a wanted KGMU resident doctor, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000, in connection with serious allegations, including repeated sexual assault under the pretext of marriage, and forced coercion into religious conversion.

Incidentally, the internal committee is being led by the doctor, whose picture was used as the group display picture by the accused, who is reportedly a 12th-pass individual, for the Cardio Seva Sansthan, according to India Today.

Police claim the complainant alleged that the resident doctor misrepresented his marital status, pressured her into conversion, and later took her to Pilibhit for marriage in early 2025. Investigators have also examined claims that he facilitated meetings and gatherings within hostel premises.

As the probe expanded, several individuals, including the resident doctor’s parents, a cleric, and a witness, were reportedly arrested for their alleged involvement.

Speaking to Hans India, authorities also noted that gatherings and speeches were allegedly organised within hostel premises in connection with the activities under investigation. The case has raised serious concerns over security, identity verification, and student safety within educational institutions, especially as it marks the second such incident reported from the same university in recent months.
