GMC Jammu senior faculty members to supervise emergency services after working hours
Jammu: The Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu have decided to keep senior faculty members at the hospital's Emergency wing post-working hours for improved patient care from 1st September 2023.
As per the circular issued by the college dean, Dr Ashuthosh Gupta on 30th August, the senior faculty members of the Medicine, Anaesthesia, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Pathology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry Department are required to remain at the hospital from 4.30 pm to 10 pm on all weekdays.
The faculty members would be responsible for the overall functioning of the Emergency services. They are responsible for ensuring the staff members in the Residents/Paramedics/MTs are following the dress code with name plates and designations.
Further, they are required to supervise the treatment provided to patients in the Emergency Department and take regular rounds in the Emergency triage and wards. They have to give information about the areas requiring improvement to the dean.
GMC Jammu was established in 1973 and it offers training courses in MBBS, BSC Paramedical courses, Post-graduation, Physiotherapy, Ancillary Medical Training (AMT) etc. There are five hospitals associated with the GMC including Medical College Hospital, SMGS Hospital, Chest Disease Hospital, Psychiatry Disease Hospital and Super Speciality Hospital.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Dr Ashutosh Gupta was appointed as the Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. This came after the former principal Shashi Sudan Sharma was shunted out after she was booked by the crime branch under the allegations of tampering with her date of birth. Dr Ashutosh Gupta has been working as the Head of the Department of Radiotherapy. The Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, Bhupinder Kumar issued an order on 25th July. The order stated that Gupta will hold the charge of the post of principal, GMC, Jammu, in addition to his own duties, for a period of one year, or till further orders.
