Haryana appoints HSIIDC to set up Rs 1,054 crore Civil Hospital

Gurugram- In the latest development, the State government has appointed the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) as the agency to execute the newly proposed civil hospital in Gurugram, replacing the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
Haryana Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao made this announcement on Thursday, stating that the HSIIDC will oversee the construction of the ₹1,054-crore hospital near the Police Lines, and officials have been instructed to complete the remaining formalities as soon as possible.
The decision comes at a time when the project's latest design, which includes a 400-bed hospital with a provision to add another 200 beds in the second phase, had reached the final stage of approval.
Following revisions to the project's scope and design over the years, the state had earlier directed the CPWD to prepare drawings for a revised model featuring 400+200 beds. The CPWD had been appointed to plan and design the long-stalled 600-bed hospital in Gurugram.
The CPWD prepared the design for a 10-storey, 750-bed hospital by mid-2024, and the state allocated approximately ₹990 crore for the project. However, the plan was subsequently revised, leading to a delay in on-site construction, according to TOI.
There is only one major government hospital in Gurugram, the Civil Hospital in Sector 10, where an average of 2,000 patients visit the OPD daily. Therefore, this project is expected to significantly strengthen the public healthcare infrastructure in Gurugram, as residents have long been demanding a large government hospital to cater to the city's rapidly growing population.
The plan for the proposed hospital has undergone several changes since it was first announced.
The proposed capacity also underwent periodic changes; initially set at 500 beds, it was later announced in the 2023-24 state budget that it would be a 750-bed facility, but ultimately, the decision was made to develop it as a 400-bed hospital in a phased manner, while keeping scope for future expansion.
