Health Minister Mangal Pandey announces Robotic Surgery Unit at IGIMS Patna

Patna: Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey has announced the setting up of a Robotic Surgery Unit at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna. The initiative aims to enhance the capability of government hospitals to perform complex surgeries using cutting-edge technology.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Robotic Surgery and Advanced Medical Equipment Department at Jai Prabha Medanta Super Speciality Hospital, Pandey said that the move marks a historic milestone in the health sector of Bihar. He said that surgeries were now possible within the state due to the modern technologies and faster recovery options.
The Minister said that with the expansion of major hospitals in Bihar, they now do not need to go outside for treatment. He termed this development as a new chapter in technological innovation and advanced healthcare services in Bihar, according to a UNI news report.

Highlighting the success of Jai Prabha Medanta under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, Pandey said that in the past three years, over 5,000 referral patients have been treated successfully, including free treatments for complex diseases such as cardiac ailments, cancer, neurological disorders, urology issues, and bone marrow transplants.
He noted that 10 robotic surgeries have already been conducted at the hospital, six of which were performed free of cost with the support of the Bihar government. Robotic surgery has proven highly effective in the treatment of complex diseases like cancer, cardiac, neurological, and urological disorders, he maintained.
