IGIMS becomes first Govt hospital in Bihar to earn NABL Accreditation

Patna- In a significant milestone, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, has become the first government-run healthcare institution in Bihar to achieve accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for its clinical biochemistry laboratory.
The accreditation was granted following the implementation of internal and external quality control systems and the regular calibration of laboratory equipment. The recognition is expected to enable patients to receive more accurate and reliable diagnostic reports.
The NABL accreditation covers approximately 100 types of diagnostic tests, which is expected to strengthen the quality and reliability of laboratory services across the state. Following NABL accreditation, the tests conducted at the laboratory will now align with national and international quality standards.
According to the Patna Press news report, officials stated that this certification signifies adherence to established protocols for quality management, equipment calibration, and standard testing procedures.
Meanwhile, medical experts at IGIMS stated that lab tests play a crucial role in the timely detection of diseases and the planning of treatment. They noted that greater accuracy in reports can help doctors make informed decisions based on more comprehensive information.
IGIMS also stated that standardised procedures in accredited laboratories can help ensure uniformity and reproducibility in test results.
This recognition is the result of the collective efforts of doctors, scientists, technical officers, and laboratory staff.
Welcoming the development, the institute's Director, Prof. Dr Binde Kumar, Deputy Director (Administration), Prof. Dr Vibhuti Sinha, and Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr Manish Mandal described it as a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services at the institute.
Additionally, the faculty members and technical staff of the Department of Biochemistry also acknowledged this achievement and described it as a significant milestone for the institute and the state's public health infrastructure.
