Infant dies after alleged wrong injection at Chennai Hospital, family protests

Chennai: In a shocking incident, a four-month-old baby girl passed away on Monday at the Omandurar Government Multi-Super Speciality Hospital in Triplicane, Chennai. The child's parents alleged that she had been administered the wrong injection.
Following the incident, the baby's parents staged a protest, alleging medical negligence and demanding action against the doctors and nurses.
According to news reports, the child was the daughter of Arunkumar, a daily-wage labourer residing in the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Board housing complex in Perumbakkam. She was admitted to the hospital after exhibiting symptoms of severe health complications related to the cold.
After being admitted to the hospital, the child was administered an injection as part of the treatment. However, the child died shortly after the injection was administered, reports TNIE.
Subsequently, the parents alleged that the infant had been administered the wrong injection.
Meanwhile, the Triplicane police gave an assurance that action would be taken if any negligence was found, following which the family members withdrew their protest.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a shocking incident in Swarupnagar in North 24 Parganas, serious allegations of medical negligence have been raised after a newborn, declared dead by a private nursing home, was later found alive just hours before burial. According to sources, the 28-year-old woman was admitted to the nursing home on Wednesday evening after experiencing labour pains. She delivered the baby on Thursday morning. Shortly after the birth, the nursing home authorities informed the family that the newborn had unfortunately passed away. The baby’s body was subsequently wrapped in gauze and plastic and handed over to the family.
