Infant's body found in Cooper Hospital restroom, probe underway

Mumbai: Police have launched an investigation after the body of an infant was discovered inside the premises of Mumbai's civic-run Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle. Authorities are examining CCTV footage, questioning hospital staff, and reviewing records to determine how the infant's body came to be abandoned and to identify those responsible.
According to The Times of India, the incident came to light on Monday evening when a visitor entered a restroom near the hospital's outpatient department (OPD) and noticed part of the newborn's body inside a toilet. Hospital authorities were immediately alerted, following which security personnel and medical staff reached the spot. Police later recovered the body and initiated an inquiry.
As part of the preliminary investigation, officers from Juhu police station are analysing CCTV footage from the hospital as well as surrounding areas, including Vile Parle and Juhu. Investigators are also examining the movement of people near the OPD and checking hospital records to establish the identity of the infant and trace the parents or any other individuals connected to the incident.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Initial findings reportedly suggest that the infant was premature, estimated to be around seven to eight months old, and the umbilical cord was still attached at the time the body was recovered. Officials are working to establish the sequence of events that led to the abandonment.
Juhu police collected CCTV footage from the hospital premises and are questioning hospital staff while examining the movement of people in and around the OPD area to identify any suspicious persons.
Police said the infant appeared to be a seven-to-eight-month-old premature fetus found wrapped in a blood-stained cloth with the umbilical cord attached. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and investigators are scanning CCTV footage from Juhu, Vile Parle and adjoining areas while examining hospital records to identify the baby and trace the parents, reports Hindustan Times.
