Install CCTVs, set up 24x7 police posts: Haryana issues advisory for medical colleges
Gurgaon: In response to the recent rape and murder of a postgraduate medico at R G Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata, the Haryana government has issued a comprehensive advisory which mandates several measures to be implemented within two days at state-run medical colleges.
The advisory mandates the creation of a 24/7 operational police post at each medical college, with a female police officer present on duty at all times.
The advisory was issued on Thursday by Haryana's additional chief secretary (medical education and research) Sumita Misra. The notice stipulates that medical colleges are required to maintain close coordination with their nearest police station, SHO, and DSP. They are also required to submit an action taken report to the government within 48 hours.

The advisory also mandates the installation of CCTV cameras in strategic locations, including hostels, main gates, roads, roundabouts, and each floor of hospital and college blocks. It also requires the establishment of a dedicated control room for continuous monitoring of CCTV footage, with a minimum backup storage of three months. Additionally, the deployment of security guards in all outpatient departments (OPDs) and outside wards is also required, as stated in the advisory. This move is expected to enhance emergency response times and provide students and staff with immediate assistance if needed.
The advisory has recommended conducting periodic safety audits, providing secure streets, parking, and transportation, and implementing robust access controls to ensure a safe environment. These controls should include ID badges, keycards, or biometric authentication for all staff members.
According to The Times of India, Virender Yadav, chief medical officer said, "Four nursing colleges in the city - SGT, Amity, RR and Gurugram University - along with SGT medical college have been directed to follow the guidelines."
This initiative is part of a broader effort to address safety concerns and ensure a secure environment for students, faculty, and staff.
