Jhansi Medical College elevator crash after cable snap leaves several injured
Jhansi- In a tragic incident, an elevator at Jhansi Medical College plunged from the first floor after its cable snapped, allegedly due to overloading late Wednesday evening. One person suffered a broken arm, while several others were injured.
The incident occurred in Ward Number 8 of the Medical College's main building at a time when people had come to meet patients. At the time, approximately 16 people, including women and children, boarded an elevator that had a capacity to carry only 8 people.
Confirming the incident, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Sachin Mahaur stated that approximately 16 people boarded the elevator, even though its capacity was limited to just 8. The lift operator attempted to stop them, but by then the elevator had already started moving, resulting in this accident, reports TOI.
As soon as the elevator, packed with people, reached the first floor, its pulley cable reportedly snapped, and the elevator plummeted rapidly. Upon hearing a loud noise, security personnel immediately rushed to the spot and forced the door open to evacuate the people inside.
After opening the elevator, a woman was found unconscious, a man sustained a broken arm, and several others suffered injuries. The injured were extracted from the elevator and immediately taken to the emergency room for medical assistance.
Meanwhile, officials stated that the lift has been sent for repairs, and steps will be taken to ensure that it is equipped with appropriate alarm devices to prevent any accidents in the future.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that in an unfortunate incident, a 50-year-old contractual employee at Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre in Nashik died after her head reportedly got stuck in an elevator, causing severe injuries.
