J&K: 243 faculty members of GMCs get promotions after Govt approval
Srinagar: The Health and Medical Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has sanctioned the promotion of 243 faculty members of the Medical Education cadre associated with various Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) of J&K.
While congratulating the faculty members on their promotion, the Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Bhupinder Kumar, expressed his confidence that the Government Medical Colleges in J&K would develop as Centers of Excellence in teaching, research and patient care.

Based on the recommendation of the J&K Public Service Commission, the government has promoted 92 members from the Government Medical College Srinagar and 73 members from the Government Medical College of Jammu. The remaining promotions took place in the newly developed GMCs of J&K, including 20 faculty members of GMC Anantnag, 15 of GMC Baramulla, 12 of GMC Doda, 17 of GMC Kathua and 14 of GMC Rajouri, reports the Daily Excelsior.
The Health and Medical Education Department had been undertaking various measures over the past few months to resolve the service-related issues at the GMCs of J&K. The promoted doctors have served as teaching faculty in various disciplines in Government Medical Colleges, including newly established Government Medical Colleges, which is the minimum eligibility criteria required to become a teacher as per the National Medical Commission.
The promotions are expected to strengthen the Post Graduate seats in the GMCs of Jammu and Srinagar and motivate the senior faculty members to further improve the teaching and research activities of the medical colleges.
The department has also referred the entry-level vacancies at the newly formed GMCs to JKPSC for fast-tracking selections to conform to the requirements of Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission. The department has also successfully taken the required permission from NMCs for the functioning of the new GMCs. The NMC has given the department a Letter of Permission (LoP) to begin MBBS batches of 100 students each in GMC Udhampur and Handwara.
