Karimnagar hospital technician arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting patient

Sexual assault in hospital
Karimnagar: In a shocking incident, an operation theatre (OT) technician was arrested by the three-town police on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a patient who was admitted for typhoid treatment at a private hospital in Karimnagar district.
According to the news reports, the accused, a native of Lakshmidevi Petha in Sironcha taluk of Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, allegedly administered an anaesthetic injection to the young woman before committing the assault at Deepika Private Hospital. The victim’s family lodged a formal complaint with Town-III police on Sunday.
Following the complaint, the Karimnagar police registered a case of rape against the accused and launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. Karimnagar Commissioner of Police, Ghaus Alam, confirmed that the hospital room where the incident occurred has been sealed and forensic samples have been collected for laboratory examination.

Speaking to Telangana Today, the Commissioner said confirmation of sexual assault would be possible only after receiving the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report.
“We have seized the room where the young woman was treated in the hospital, verifying details and collecting evidence. A case has been registered against the accused under charges of rape,” the Commissioner said. He added that CCTV footage from the hospital had also been seized. “We will disclose full details soon after the investigation is completed,” he said, reports India Today.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had previously worked in two private hospitals as a ward boy and male nurse. He was reportedly removed from both jobs due to his alcoholism. He was also said to be addicted to pornography, according to the police. Despite his history, the accused managed to secure employment at another private hospital in Karimnagar as a compounder and OT technician. It was here that he allegedly committed the crime.
He was booked under Section 64 (2) (e) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, reports the Hindu.
The incident has triggered public anger, with many questioning the hospital’s lack of adequate monitoring systems to protect patients, particularly women.
