Kerala: Chemotherapy facility available in 25 Govt Hospitals

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George has said that chemotherapy facilities for cancer treatment are available in 25 government hospitals in the state. During the COVID era, facilities for cancer follow-up treatment were provided in nearby hospitals so that cancer patients with low immune systems do not have to travel long distances for treatment.

Only 4972 new cancer patients were diagnosed and treated through screening at these centres. These centres have been expanded to provide services including chemotherapy. The minister said that the aim is to provide chemotherapy facilities in more hospitals.

Thiruvananthapuram Nedumangad District Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, Kollam District Hospital, Punalur Taluk Head Quarters Hospital, Pathanamthitta General Hospital, Kojancherry District Hospital, Alappuzha General Hospital, Mavelikara District Hospital, Kottayam Pala General Hospital, Kottayam District Hospital, Idukki Thodupuzha District Hospital, Ernakulam General Hospital, Muvatupuzha District Hospital, Thrissur Vadakkancheri Taluk Head Quarters Hospital, Thrissur General Hospital, Palakkad District Hospital, Ottapalam Taluk Head Quarters Hospital, Malappuram Tirur District Hospital, Perinthalmanna District Hospital, Nilambur District Hospital, Kozhikode Beach Hospital, Wayanad Nallurnad Tribal Hospital, Kannur District Hospital, Thalassery General Hospital, Kasargod Kanhangad General Hospital will offer the facilities.

TNIE reports that cancer treatment was implemented through these centres in collaboration with medical colleges, Thiruvananthapuram RCC, Malabar Cancer Center and Cochin Cancer Center. After initial treatment at Medical Colleges, RCC, Malabar Cancer Center and Cochin Cancer Center, it is enough to visit nearby centres for further treatment. Cancer screening, ancillary cancer treatment services, medications and palliative care services are also available from these nearby hospitals.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Health Minister Veena George has inspected the Medical College Hospital (MCH) and directed the hospital authorities to ensure the smooth functioning of the lab equipment. It came to the fore that many patients have been complaining about the delay in scans making them wait for a longer period of time.
