Kerala: Ernakulam Hospital Development work completes in one year
Kerala: Ernakulam General Hospital is a hospital that has changed the face of government-run healthcare facilities. The General Hospital, one of the best government hospitals in the state with infrastructure and modern treatment facilities, was completed in a year at a cost of 76 crores.
With the installation of state-of-the-art equipment, the hospital now stands on par with private sector hospitals. The Super Specialty Block at the hospital was officially inaugurated in February 2021.

It was soon converted into the COVID Center following the expansion of the COVID. It was later fully opened to the public last September. By then, development work worth 76 crores had been completed. Construction work was carried out flawlessly with the help of Kifby.
The 7-storey super specialty block has more state-of-the-art equipment than any other medical college in the state. Equipment worth over Rs 22 crore was installed in a year. Anesthesia workstations, 6 modular operating theaters for various specialized therapies, neuro operating microscopes, and state-of-the-art machinery such as Linac, the latest technology for cancer treatment, are just a few.
The hospital has also done heart surgery last December. For the first time in the history of the country, the district level hospital has implemented the cardiac surgery facility only in medical colleges. Health Minister Veena George and others personally congratulated the doctors and all the staff for leading the heart surgery. The cardiac surgery theater and the angiogram and angioplasty lab, which beat the super-specialty hospitals in the private sector, will be the newcomers.
Although crores of rupees have been spent on development activities, treatments are being carried out without charging a single rupee from the patients. Funds will be raised from the Karunya Health Care Scheme.
