Kerala will get AIIMS soon, says Vice President CP Radhakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will get an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the near future, Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan said, highlighting the expansion of AIIMS institutions across the country.
“I am sure that Keralam will get one in the near future,” Radhakrishnan said while addressing the 15th graduation day ceremony of Sree Uthradom Thirunal (SUT) Academy of Medical Sciences in Thiruvananthapuram, reports the Daily.

Speaking about the importance of medical education, the Vice-President said access to higher education is at the core of the vision of Viksit Bharat and that the expansion of medical education has received greater emphasis under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the newly graduated medical professionals, Radhakrishnan stressed the need to combine scientific excellence with human compassion. He said technological advancements could assist doctors but could never replace the human dimension of medicine.
According to TNIE, “Technology can assist a doctor, but it cannot replace the human aspects of a doctor,” he said. “A machine can analyse. A robot can assist. An algorithm can identify patterns. But a patient still needs a doctor who can listen, understand, reassure and take responsibility.”
He also urged the graduates to uphold the trust symbolised by the white coat throughout their professional careers. He emphasised the importance of accurate diagnosis, compassionate treatment and ethical decision-making.
Radhakrishnan advised the young doctors to remain confident while staying humble, ambitious while remaining ethical, technologically advanced while retaining compassion, and successful while remaining connected to society.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Kerala High Court has asked the Central government to explain the delay in establishing an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the state, despite the Centre’s policy of setting up one such institute in every state. The court also sought details on the criteria used by the government to decide the location of these premier medical institutes across the country.
