Kilpauk Medical College Hospital establishes foundation to study Metabolism and Diabetes prevention
Chennai: A new foundation called Professor Seshiah Academic Foundation for Metabolism has been established at the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital to study metabolism and the preventive methods for diabetes.
Former secretary to the President of India, P Murari inaugurated the foundation. Professor Seshiah was a former director of the hospital and a veteran diabetologist.

Murari talked about his experiences with Dr Seshiah while serving as a bureaucrat. He also inaugurated the Diabetes Free Generation by 2047 programme.
Dr Seshiah was honoured with several International and National awards for his academic, clinical and research contributions. He is the recipient of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Glasgow and the Lifetime Achievement Award by Dr MGR. Medical University. He always highlighted the importance of detecting gestational diabetes during the early second month of pregnancy stating that early detection of diabetes would prevent harm to the foetus.
Director of Medical Education R Shanthimalar said that the state government is planning to establish clinics specialising in podiatry (a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle). The Thanjavur Medical College has already established a podiatric clinic, she added.
Speaking to The Hindu, she said, "We must go for preventive medicine. It requires the entire team to take care of the patients. Postgraduate students should learn the methods to treat."
The event was attended by the hospital dean R. Muthuselvan and senior officials of the hospital.
The Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital was founded in 1960 and is affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University. The place offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is recognised as a level II trauma care centre.
