Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation to set up 1000-bed hospital in Pune

Lata Mangeshkar’s Legacy Inspires 1000-Bed Super-Speciality Hospital in Pune
Pune: In a tribute befitting the legendary singer, the Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation (LMMF) has announced plans to set up a 1000-bed super-speciality hospital in Nandoshi, off Sinhagad Road in Pune. The ambitious project will be named the Lata Mangeshkar Institute of Medical Sciences (LMIMS), is being envisioned as one of Asia’s largest medical facilities.
Dr Dhananjay Kelkar, Trustee of LMMF, confirmed that the foundation has submitted the necessary plans to local authorities. Speaking to the Indian Express, he said, “Plans have been submitted to authorities for permission, and we hope to commence the work in December this year. The aim is to make it one of Asia’s largest hospitals.”
The announcement followed a tribute event — Mee Lata Dinanath — held in Pune on September 28, marking the 96th birth anniversary of the iconic singer. During the program, her brother and renowned music composer Hridaynath Mangeshkar formally announced the project. He called the initiative a fitting tribute to his sister’s unmatched contributions to Indian music and culture.

He revealed that the hospital will be constructed on a 40-acre land parcel. The event featured musical renditions of Lata Mangeshkar’s timeless Marathi and Hindi classics. It saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Maharashtra’s Cultural Minister Ashish Shelar, Member of Parliament Medha Kulkarni, singer Usha Mangeshkar, veteran actor Mohan Joshi, and actress Prajakta Mali.
Dr Kelkar further highlighted that the Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation already operates the well-known Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Mai Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, both of which have served the city’s population for over 24 years.
