Lilavati Hospital gets BMC notice over viral photo of MP getting MRI done
Mumbai: A viral picture of a Member of Parliament Navneet Rana getting an MRI done has landed Lilavati Hospital into trouble after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a notice to the hospital on how the photography is being done in the MRI room.
The minister was out on bail and went to the facility to get an MRI scan done.
Commenting on the issue, Lilavati hospital's chief executive Lieutenant General Dr. Ravi Shankar said on Monday that the MRI of the minister was done at 10 pm and the consultant (doctor) was not present in the room after the MRI was done. Hence, the technician sent the images to the consultant. "We received a notice from the BMC on Sunday and have been given three days' time to respond. We are collecting statements and forming a committee. We will respond before the set deadline," he added.
The MP was arrested on April 23 for creating a disturbance by threatening to chant Hanuman Chalisa at Matoshri, the residence of the Thackeray family. However, she was released on May 5 and was taken to the Lilavati hospital. According to a hospital source, she underwent an MRI on May 6. As she was out on bail, the court had directed her not to speak to the media but she did a Facebook Live from the hospital, reports The Indian Express.
Former Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar and Shiv Sena MLC Manisha Kayande visited Lilavati hospital in Mumbai and came down heavily on the management questioning how pictures of Navneet could be shot and circulated on social media. Pendekar questioned how can authorities allow a phone inside the MRI room when metal objects are not be brought inside considering the risk of accidents, reported the daily.
He also pointed out that if a person is receiving treatment in the trauma section, her legs should be tied together. He criticized the hospital staff for standing there doing nothing when the MP's images were being clicked and circulated.
