Medical negligence alleged after 14-year-old dies at Cuttack Hospital

Cuttack: Allegations of medical negligence surfaced at the District Headquarters Hospital, popularly known as City Hospital, in Cuttack on Tuesday following the death of a 14-year-old boy, triggering tension on the hospital premises.

The deceased, a resident of the Lalbag police limits area, reportedly complained of abdominal pain on Monday. His parents subsequently took him to the City Hospital for treatment.

According to the news reports, doctors examined the boy and prescribed medicines before allowing him to return home. The family was reportedly advised to consult surgery specialists at the hospital if his condition did not improve.

However, after taking the prescribed medicines, the boy allegedly complained of worsening abdominal pain. His parents immediately rushed him back to the hospital, where doctors reportedly declared him dead.

The incident sparked tension in the hospital, with the boy’s parents attributing their child’s death to medical negligence by the doctors. They lodged a complaint with Lalbag police, following which an unnatural death case was registered, reports the TNIE.

The body of the minor was sent for postmortem. The exact cause of death is expected to be established after the postmortem examination and further investigation.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a shocking incident, an 18-year-old girl died allegedly after being administered an injection at the Bhapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Nayagarh district on Tuesday, triggering protests by her family members and local residents. The girl, a resident of Golapokhari village in Bhapur block, had reportedly been suffering from fever since Sunday. As her condition did not improve, her family took her to the Bhapur CHC for treatment on Tuesday morning. After examining her, a doctor reportedly administered an injection.
