MLA Pravin Datke Inspects IGGMCH Nagpur, Proposes Addition of 4 Floors in New Medical Complex

Nagpur: In an effort to enhance healthcare infrastructure in Nagpur Central, newly-elected MLA Pravin Datke conducted a comprehensive site inspection at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), also known as Mayo Hospital, on Tuesday.
Established in 1872 as a district civil hospital, IGGMCH is undergoing significant upgrades. During his visit, Datke proposed adding four more floors to the planned seven-story, 500-bed medical complex.
Datke also inaugurated the newly-renovated maternity ward, a major upgrade in line with the state government's ambitious ‘Lakshya’ scheme. The renovation includes state-of-the-art medical equipment, aimed at enhancing maternity services at the hospital and ensuring that these improvements will greatly benefit patient care.
As per the recent media report by TOI, the BJP MLA also summoned an urgent meeting with the Public Works Department concerning the institution. The Dean, Dr Ravi Chavan, was directed to promptly present details on all constructions to accelerate progress.
In February, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 500-bed modern medicine complex at IGGMCH, along with other infrastructural development projects valued at Rs. 338 crore.
The medical college and hospital, also known as Mayo Hospital, occupies 40 acres of prime land near the Nagpur railway station. The revamp is being executed by renowned architects.
As part of this revamp, a 500-bed medicine complex worth Rs. 145 crore is being built, alongside new buildings for the OPD, RMO, UG, PG hostels, nursing college, nursing hostels, and various allied services. Adding four more floors to the medical complex is expected to increase its bed capacity to 600. Accompanied by key medical officials, including IGGMCH Dean Dr Ravi Chavan, MLA Pravin Datke also took the initiative to hold an urgent meeting with the Public Works Department (PWD) to accelerate the construction efforts at the hospital.
He instructed Dr Chavan to provide detailed updates on the progress of ongoing projects, ensuring that development work stays on track and is completed as quickly as possible.
He assured that he would personally intervene with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to ensure the necessary staffing is approved and allocated to meet the hospital’s growing needs.
The MLA also recommended submitting a new proposal to the District Planning Committee for the acquisition of additional medical equipment vital for patient care. Furthermore, Datke expressed his commitment to enhancing the overall patient experience by pledging his support for securing transportation vehicles and ambulances for efficient patient transfers.
