Nanavati Max super-speciality Hospital inaugurates liver transplant support group
The support group will conduct periodic meetings at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, providing an opportunity for members to stay updated on recent advancements in the field of liver transplantation, as they interact with the best hepatologists and liver transplant surgeons in India.
Mumbai: Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, a leading quaternary care clinical facility, has announced the launch of its 'Liver Transplant Support Group', with an aim to create a platform for liver transplant patients to share their experiences, seek guidance and empower one another on their journey to recovery.
The initiative was inaugurated on Saturday in the presence of leading liver physicians from the country. Dr Harish Bhalla, Dr Jayant Barve and Dr Anurag Shrimal were also present on the occasion, a press release said here.
While speaking about the purpose of the initiative, Dr Shrimal said, "Liver transplant patients, both adults and pediatric cases, often have various non-clinical queries regarding nutrition, diet, lifelong medications, and lifestyle adjustments post-transplant.
Recognising the need for a dedicated support system, we have taken this significant step... By connecting individuals who have undergone liver transplantation, the support group will facilitate the exchange of valuable insights, practical advice, and emotional support."
The support group will conduct periodic meetings at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, providing an opportunity for members to stay updated on recent advancements in the field of liver transplantation, as they interact with the best hepatologists and liver transplant surgeons in India.
Another key objective of the support group is to raise awareness about cadaveric liver donations, the release added.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the family of a 77-year-old female, who was declared brain dead at HCMCT Manipal Hospital (Dwarka) took the brave decision of donating her liver and corneas. The liver was allocated by National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) and transplanted at another city hospital. Both the corneas were also retrieved by the eye bank.
