Odisha: Ceiling slabs collapse in MKCG Hospital
Berhampur: The ceiling slabs on the fifth and third floor of the Super Specialty Block in Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur reportedly collapsed.
On Friday, the incident is reported to have occurred at the Endocrinology Department on the third floor of the institute. People were not injured when the ceiling slabs fell. However, the incident has created a lot of conversations in the hospital about its safety.
On Thursday, various ceiling slabs on the fifth floor of the Super Specialty Block collapsed. The incident has raised questions about the quality of the construction work of the hospital. It is suspected that the slabs might have soaked up water due to the visible water droplets on its surface, which might be the reason behind its collapse, reports the Odisha Bytes.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that last month, the hospital witnessed a fire mishap in the Urology ward of the same building of MKCG due to a likely short circuit at an operation theatre. There was no injury or fatality due to the blaze, as patients and attendants were immediately evacuated from the fifth floor of the newly built super specialty building on the medical facility's campus.
The smoke was first spotted billowing out from the plastic surgery ward of the hospital. As many as 50 fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the blaze under control, officials said. Since the fire incident, the operation theatres of the Urology and Plastic Surgery departments here have remained closed.
The hospital, a five-storey super-specialty building of the MKCG, became operational last year and was constructed under Prime Minister Swasthya Suraksha Yojana at the cost of around Rs 150 crore, reports Odisha TV.
